Carmel

Carmel is certain that she's a princess. She's sure that she's beautiful. She adores people and attention and wants love. She is the happiest girl - she prances, dances and kicks up her front legs. She runs to greet people with happy kisses. She is happy because she is out of the puppy mill prison where she was forced to give birth to litter after litter of puppies. For as happy as she is to be free and loved, you can see in her eyes great wisdom and great sadness. A great sadness that comes from years of suffering that none of us will ever be able to comprehend.

Carmel is a Shih Tzu and will be lovely when good nutrition restores her hair. She has corneal scars that are being treated. Her teeth were terrible but have been cleaned. She lost many of them. She also had two mammary tumors removed. And she had a urinary tract infection. Through all of her treatments she never complained about anything. She was grateful for every kindness and all attention.

Carmel became as gorgeous as she was sure she was. She was adopted and lives happily with her family - as she always should have. If you ever hear of anyone who is considering buying a dog in a pet store, tell them about Carmel and the horrors that she suffered in a commercial kennel also known as a puppy mill. Tell them about the connection between puppy mills and pet stores. The only way you can be certain not to buy a puppy from a puppy mill is to see the parents and see where they live.
